Reaching Globally

Jesus was once asked to sum up the law, to which he replied that the totality of law could be summed up in two commands. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself." At Grandview, we see this as our mission and mandate: to love our neighbors is part of what it means to be a missional church.

Marshall McLuhan first imagined the world as a global village, and because of technology, media and access to easy and affordable travel, this is certainly a reality in the twenty-first century. For Grandview this means we recognize the entire world as our neighbor and this means being intentional about reaching out globally with the transforming power of Jesus good news. Given that God is concerned particularly with the widow and orphan or those who are marginalized and overlooked by the rest of the world, we see reaching out to "the least of these” as an important part of our mission at Grandview. This means that we are committed to using our voices and resources as tools for mission in God's kingdom, but it also means we will be intentional and strategic so that as a community we might 'reach out' more effectively, particularly to the ignored and overlooked in our world. Below are the four strategic ways our Reaching Globally Team has identified to help equip our church to be on mission with Christ in our local setting.

1. We will help provide opportunities for individuals, small groups and clusters to reach out to our world with the holistic gospel of Christ.

2. We will be intentional about forming long term strategic partnerships with churches and partnering organizations around the world that will allow us to make a lasting and tangible difference in the lives of orphans, widows, the marginalized and overlooked around the world. Our Reaching Globally Team has begun this process with churches in Jinja, Uganda.

3. We will be intentional about maintaining a consistent emphasis on living 'missional' lives that constantly look for opportunities to see God's kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.

4. We will work towards a greater awareness and emphasis towards being socially aware of global needs and issues.
