Over the years at Grandview, there have been half a dozen different symbols and font styles used to visually represent the church, our ministry expressions and priorities. Where the logos of years gone by answered the question: "WHO ARE WE?"—pointing internally at the Organization (our '5 Pillars of Ministry'), or at our Members (our '3-Part Strategy for Living a Balanced Life')—our new logo answers the question: "WHO ARE WE SERVING?" refocusing our attention on those we are called to love—pointing externally to our neighbours, our city, our region and beyond.
Ultimately, all evangelical churches have the same mission: to reach the unsaved! We have the same priorities of worship, prayer, belonging and benevolence—and largely the same programs and ministries as many other churches in our country. So what makes Grandview different? We're the ones who serve the people of Chicopee Centreville, in the City of Kitchener! These are the people we are for, and serving them is our life's work. That's what our new logo has been designed to remind us of.
The hard part of course, was figuring out how to fit a two paragraph concept into one simple, modern symbol. So below is a quick look at the four major elements of the new logo, to help people make the connections and "see" what we believe is our unique calling as a church.
The large "swoosh" that cuts through the centre of the logo represents Chicopee Ski Hill, which serves not only as a geographical landmark for the City itself, but also represents the specific neighbourhood where our campus is located. We have been called to love the people of this neighbourhood.
Luke 10:27"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, love your neighbour as yourself."
OUR CITY & REGION
The second, semi-circular line below the hill represents the Grand River, which meanders its way through the heart of our city and unites our region together. Our members are scattered throughout Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and Guelph and we desire to bring Gospel renewal and redemption to these cities and this region.
Jeremiah 29:7 "Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
The single outer "ripple" of the logo represents our global missions priorities, as we support those within our membership and those outside our church family who are investing their lives in sharing the Gospel with people all over the world. We support missionaries in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Serbia, Russia, Philippines, Japan and Papua New Guinea
Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS
The colour of the logo is bright white. This is a visual reminder of our high calling to be both 'salt' and 'light' as we carry out our mission in the darkness of a sinful world. The absence of colour from the symbol (which represents our church as an 'organization') reminds us that it's the people and ministries of Grandview who provide the colour and vibrancy to our community. Our hope is not in our bricks and mortar, but in the transforming work of Christ in our lives.
Matthew 5:16 "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
